You Are Here
This body of work, “You Are Here”, created by artist, Brittany A. Miller, is a mixture of mixed media pieces, 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional, many made with reclaimed and found materials, such as old cabinet doors and scrap wood. Aesthetically, these creations have an illustrative quality mixing with the rawness of the weathered, tarnished wood and other materials offering an alluring effect.
For all of ‘You Are Here’ works, the mannequin has become Miller’s muse neutrally representing anyone and everyone. Each piece encompasses a depth of metaphor and symbolism reflecting matters of the heart and authenticity. Ultimately, they contemplate how anyone and everyone may choose to relate to others, to self, and to one’s faith. The spectrum of personal experience is conveyed variedly from piece to piece. Miller would share that her creations explore the human condition and experience of searching for the ultimate heartfelt authentic state, the struggle to get to that state, and all the choices we may make to reach that state. Some may refer to it as their Christian salvation, or Nirvana, or Enlightenment, but the label means nothing in comparison to actually reaching this state. Further, Miller believes this is the ultimate dance and challenge of life.
